Headlines with Heidi! What happens when police officers fail psych exams?

Lt. Randy Sutton, who spent 34 years as a police officer, joined me to talk about the recent case of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office moving 47 officers to desk jobs because they failed their psych exams. Video HERE.

We discussed the larger issue of police officers dealing with trauma, and what happens to officers injured on the job when their departments turn on them.

Randy hosts the “The Voice of American Law Enforcement” podcast, and is the founder of TheWoundedBlue.org, created to help injured police officers.

Heidi Harris Show Podcast #268: How I’ve avoided being shot by a cop

There was another police shooting in Minnesota, and I commented on it during my live show. At the time I recorded this, it had not been revealed that the police officer meant to hit him with her Taser, and not her gun. I discussed the PRINCIPLE of cooperating with police. 99.99999% of the time, when there’s a police shooting, the victim escalated things by not following police requests. I’ve been there, with an out of control cop, and I took it upon myself to de-escalate the situation.

Heidi Harris Show Podcast #99: Las Vegas Officer Not Indicted by Grand Jury

Officer Kenneth Lopera was accused of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Tashii Brown, but the Grand Jury saw the situation differently, and refused to indict him. He’s not completely out of the woods legally, but he’s made it over one legal hurdle. Steve Grammas, President of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, joined me to discuss the case.

Heidi Harris Show Podcast #73: Talking Race Relations with Toure’

Toure’ is a broadcaster, podcaster, author and cultural critic. There’s virtually nothing we agree on, but then again, our experiences have been very different. On my podcast #68, I discussed a recent column he wrote about how white people can call the police and automatically be believed. He heard my podcast, we made contact, and then WE had a chat about it. Here are parts 1 & 2.
